In order to better address the urgent need for more evidence-based parenting services within Erie County, CCNY has, thanks to the generosity of the Health and Tower Foundations, begun implementing an evidence-based parenting program called Nurturing Parent Program (NPP).  The funds are being used to train workers in the Wraparound vendor network to deliver the evidence-based program to youth and families in the High Fidelity Wrap program.  There will be 22 individuals trained to deliver the program and 12 individuals undertaking the “Train The Trainer” certification to sustain it in Erie County past the initial stages.

Our inaugural training took place from February 19th through 21st.  This series of trainings and observational assessments geared towards vendors and vendor supervisors ensures fidelity to the NPP model.  We are partnering with Family Nurturing Center of Texas to provide the initial and Train The Trainer program certifications.

The passing of the federal Family First Prevention Services Act in 2018 necessitates evidence-based prevention efforts for 1) mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment services and 2) in-home parent skill-based services for children in or at-risk of foster care services.  The services may be provided for not more than 12 months for children who are at imminent risk of entering foster care, their parents and relatives to assist the children, and pregnant or parenting teens. Although there are existing parenting programs for families in Erie County, capacity is oversubscribed with wait lists being the norm.  Moreover, few are rated as evidence-based and restrictive eligibility criteria excludes client profiles such as those in High Fidelity Wraparound.  CCNY, Inc. is responsible for the recruitment, contracting, training, evaluation and quality initiatives of the Vendor Network within the High Fidelity Wraparound (HFW) Erie Program.
